Who dominates our hearts?

The goal of this series is to present a clear picture of a desired relationship with God as it relates to all of life's circumstances.

"It is not revolutions and upheavals that clear the road to new and better days, but someone's soul inspired and ablaze."
--Russian Poet, Boris Pasternak

More pages of Scripture were written about David than any other character. He was certainly not perfect: he was an unfaithful husband, a weak father and a leader who showed partiality. Nonetheless, the Bible says he was a man after God's own heart.

Three things to understand about David:

1. He is both earthy and godly.
Read 2 Samuel 3:39

David wore his heart and his failures on his sleeve. Perhaps as a king, he knew this was key to being an effective ruler. It certainly seems to have kept his communication honest with God.

So what makes David godly?

2. He is consumed by God.
Read Psalm 69:8-9

Friends say "you are eaten up with this God thing". His identity is wrapped up in the Most High God.

3. He is responsive to God.
Read Psalm 86:11

The question for each of us: what do I live for?

Is your relationship to God casual?
Perhaps you live for your job, or sports, or recreation.

Is your relationship to God crucial?
If so, your family, marriage and character are most important to you.

Is your relationship to God critical?
This woul look like the following: unless God shows up and deals with me, everything else is worthless. Or, another way to say it: you've realized it was time to turn every area of your life over to God and leave it to Him to make the right thing happen.

Application:
1. Am I really happy and genuinely challenged with life?
2. Am I making a consistent contribution to eternity?
3. Is the direction of my life toward or away from a meaningful future?
