He Will Be Named... Wonderful Counselor

by Dan Houze, Dec 2, 2007.

Hear the recorded message based on Isaiah 9:1-7.

He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”—Isaiah 9:6a

Isaiah 8:9-1 “Prepare for battle, and be shattered! Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us…The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread and… he will be a sanctuary.”

Isaiah 9:6a “For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.” (Picture of shepherd carrying sheep on his shoulders)

Isaiah 9:bHe will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 11:2, “And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.”

· What is one “yoke” that you desire Him to shatter in your life?

· What part of your life do you need to grow under the Lordship of Christ?

He Will Be Named... Eternal Father

by Dan Houze, Dec 23, 2007

Hear the recorded message based on Isaiah 9:1-7.

He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”—Isaiah 9:6

He will never grow weary of interceding for them (Heb. 7:25). He will not leave nor forsake us (Deut. 31:6). He is our Eternal Father, the “Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, the First and the Last” (Rev. 1:8)

[READ LUKE 15:11-24].

1. If you compared your spiritual journey to that of the prodigal where would you be? At home but not happy, in a far country, beginning to see reality, one your way home but unsure of how God will respond, or enjoying the mercy and celebrative love of your Eternal Father?

2. Have you ever experienced God as this father?

The Lord your God is with you,

He is mighty to save.

He will take great delight in you.

He will comfort you with his love.

He will rejoice over you with singing.

Zech. 3:16

PEACE WITH GOD

· Romans 5:10

· Self-sins:

o Self-righteousness

o self-pity,

o self-confidence,

o self-sufficiency,

o self-admiration,

o self-love and a host of other like them.

· Romans 5:1-2 tells us, “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace [italics mine] with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.”

· Phil. 4:7, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

RELATIONAL AND SOCIAL PEACE

· John 15:18-25

This passage brings up an interesting question:

Do you put more effort at “belonging to the world” or following Christ in all areas of your life?

WORLD PEACE

· Matthew 24:6-8

QUESTIONS FOR CONSIDERATION:

· Have you ever enjoyed that kind of peace? If not, Christ invites you to believe in Him this morning. He invites you to bring all your cares and worries and hopes and dreams and lay them in his hands as an act of faith.

· Perhaps you are a follower of Christ who is not enjoying His peace this morning. If that is the case, more than likely you are allowing those self-sins to distract you from yielding every area of your life. What self-sin is keeping you from enjoying peace?
