Easter Week 2006 - A Sermon Series
Palm Sunday: The Tragic Entry
(Palm Sunday is also known as the day of Christ's Triumphal Entry, but perhaps this is a misnomer.)
by Dan Houze, April 9, 2006
From Luke 19:28-44

- As the Lord, He has the right to my possesions.
(Note that the national average of church member giving is 3% of income vs. 10% minimum in scripture.) - As Lord, He has the right to receive my praise and worship, each day.
- As Lord, He has the right to institute His kingdom in my life as He chooses.
Are we engaging in His mission, or just asking him to fix the broken places in our lives?
Beyond my family, what would be the hardest thing for me to give up?
Just as people resisted God's way of inaugurating His kingdom, what are the ways we resist His way of doing things in our lives?

Good Friday
April 14, 2006
Click here for an audio recording of the service. This recording includes the scripture passages read aloud and hymns sung a capella.
Here are the passages which were read aloud:
Jesus said seven final things before He died on the cross. During the service, a candle representing each of these things was snuffed out in turn after each one was read aloud:
- "Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing" - Luke 23:34
- "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise" - Luke 23:43
- "Dear woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." - John 19:26-27
- "Eloi, eloi, lama sabachthani?" -- which means, "My God, my God, why hast though forsaken me?" - Matthew 27:46
- "I am thirsty" - John 19:28 [this seems to be missing on the recording]
- "It is finished" - John 19:30
- "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." - Luke 23:46
